Leadership In Training

3:30 PM | 94 Victoria St E, Exeter

The Leadership in Training (LIT) Program is designed to provide participants 12 - 15 years of age with foundational leadership skills and practical experience working with children and youth in a recreation setting.

Running on Monday evenings at the South Huron Recreation Centre from April 20th to June 1st from 3:30pm - 5:30pm, the program includes 15.5 hours of classroom-based learning, where participants engage in interactive sessions covering key topics such as leadership styles, goal setting, effective communication, building trust, team building and cooperation, conflict resolution, and a resume writing workshop. Participants will also have the opportunity to obtain HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification, a nationally recognized standard for quality programs in children’s recreation and sport.

Following the classroom component, participants complete 15–20 hours of hands-on placement within a Municipality of South Huron child and youth recreation program. During this placement, participants work alongside experienced staff, assist in program delivery, support activities, and gain practical experience engaging and supervising children and youth.

This combination of theory and real-world application helps participants build confidence, strengthen leadership abilities, and prepare for future employment or volunteer opportunities in recreation and community settings.

Cost: $150 per participant

To register please complete the Leadership In Training Registration Form. Completed forms can be submitted to communityservices@southhuron.ca.

Please note the program will run from 3:30 - 9:00pm on April 27th (participants will take part in High Five training course).

Please note the program will not run on Victoria Day (May 18, 2026).
