Make a Mess returns to the Museum this winter! Drop in each Saturday afternoon starting Jan. 4, 2025. for unstructured play for primary-aged children and their families. Create without instructions, colour without lines, and play games without rules! Unstructured play encourages creativity, mixed-age play and independence.
Included with regular admission or FREE when you show your Huron County Library card. Children 5 and under always free.
Make a Mess is a great opportunity to get out of the house during the cold winter months for indoor play in a fresh setting! Meet other parents, grandparents and guardians while kids play. Visit your favourite spots in the museum and enjoy our rotating Make a Mess activity stations located throughout the building. Activities change weekly and may include the chance to:
- BUILD with cardboard, blocks, play dough, straw & connectors
- CREATE with craft supplies, colours and upcycled materials
- PLAY and PROBLEM SOLVE with games, loose parts
- IMAGINE with toys, play sets and the Victorian doll house
- CHILL in the quiet corner with books, puzzles, colouring pages, board games, magnet poetry or mad libs
- DISCOVER with tactile stations like play sand
Free wifi and comfy seating for parents. Nut-free snacks from home can be consumed in designated areas. No registration required. If you are not feeling well, please visit another time. Please be aware that some stations may contain small parts.

Drop into the Blyth Branch on Monday evenings for Craft & Chat, a casual crafters’ get-together and a great opportunity to meet new friends! Bring your crafting project and a refreshment or coffee is available by donation.
Not offered on the 4th Monday of the month.

The Grief Recovery Method aids in dispellling the myths of grief such as time heals all wounds, be strong for others, just keep busy, grieve alone and bury your feelings. This 8 week group teaches you new tools to aid in processing your grief - past and present.
You will learn how to listen to someone who is sharing their story without offering advice, comparing, critizing or fixing. You will learn what not to say and why and what to say instead.
Some comments from participants after completed the group include - "I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders" , "I have engery again", "I feel at peace", "I feel better equiped".
Must have access to computer and wifi in a private space.
